Description

German Shepherd Dog - Medium - Young - Female - Dog - Patti Cake
Description
Patti Cake is a German Shepherd mix rescued from the streets of Nashville at 12 weeks old on May 22nd, 2008. She was the last of her litter rescued from under a barn after being born to a feral mama dog. At 8 months old, she was adopted, but then returned to her rescuers in May 2009 after her familydecided she was never going to be social enough for them. Patti Cake, despite her shy personality, is a beautiful golden shepherd who weighs about 50 lbs. She is about knee-high in terms of height and wears a medium collar. Patti Cake is a loving dog, coming to us to lick our fingers and smell our hands and take treats from us, however she prefers not being touched. We are leashing her--she comes to her kennel on command--and then sitting with her for TV time & brushing. For walking, her initial response is to get back inside the house or fence if at all possible. We use a sprenger pinch collar on her so she cannot slip out of her collar & harness (because she can & will). The sprenger also helps her stay focused & under control on the walk, however noises (cars, dogs, walkers) will make her anxious, but she will continue to walk. Sitting and relaxing on the porch and then the sidewalk with steak as a reward has helped her. If you are looking for a submissive yet playful, energetic, and outgoing buddy for your own dog, Patti Cake may be the girl for you. She is an excellent sister to all of our pups, every day, all day. She will chase and run and loves to be chased while she's on the run. After she is caught, she will chew at the others from the bottom of a pile of puppies and wiggle her way to the top where she just might end up on top! All in all, Patti Cake is a sweet and soulful little girl, born on the rough streets and then raised without proper one-on-one attention. Her lack of confidence and social skills stems from these negatives, but she positively is a wonderful baby, in fantastic shape with great health, looking for a family to give her the time and attention she craves, whether it's from a two-legged parent or a four-legged sibling! She sleeps in a kennel at night and doesn't have accidents inside as long as she's allowed to potty every 5-6 hours. With a doggie door, she is golden & has no accidents inside. She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations, bordetella, and rabies. Patti Cake is current on flea/tick preventatives as well as heartworm preventatives. Patti is an indoor dog with outdoor privileges. Please email for an application! Our adoption fee is $350 for most young/adults and $400 for puppies. We have had to raise our fee do to our transport costs from the south. We are often asked, "Why would you charge "so much" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support all rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in (discounted) vet care, and many people will want to adopt it. An older one with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation; yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt it. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others. Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you too are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption fees. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible."
