Description

Black Labrador Retriever - Large - Adult - Female - Dog - Casia
Description
Casia has found a foster home but has been in rescue for almost a year. It is time that she finds her forever home. So far she hasn't been adopted because she has been too big (3 times). She is a tall dog. Casia is a wonderful black lab/Akita mix. She has the beautifullab face and expression of a lab but has a slightly longer coat and white markings. She is large sized around 80 lbs. Casia is a very sweet, loyal and loving dog who is good with children. Casia is an active/athletic girl but she also knows how to calm down and cuddle up. She is very smart and knows some basic commands. Casia is house and crate trained. Foster Dad update: Casia is fostering at a grade 6-12 boarding school for boys. Casia is such a happy girl!! She leaps down the stairs to get outside (5 steps at a time) and she loves to run. I have her out for 4 or 5 15 minute walks and a 20 minute time to run around each day and she'd keep going if I let her. She does laps up and down the hallways of the dorm when we are inside, leaping over Puck (the 14 yr old canine foster brother). She needs a home that will keep her active or at least busy as If she is in the house for a long time, she tends to start barking at cars or noises. Casia does settle down, but she still has puppy-like energy that is contagious! She is excellent with other dogs and has even befriended a cat. Our adoption fee is $350 for most young/adults and $400 for puppies. We have had to raise our fee do to our transport costs from the south. We are often asked, "Why would you charge "so much" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support all rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in (discounted) vet care, and many people will want to adopt it. An older one with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation; yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt it. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others. Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you too are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption fees. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible."
