American Staffordshire Terrier - Medium - Young - Female - Dog -
Description
Hi. My name is Sable. I am a one- to two-year-old female American Staffordshire terrier. As you can see from my photos I am a tripod - I was born with a defect in my right front leg, which left it useless. I had a very rough beginning to my life in fact, I was seized in a cruelty investigationalong with my three puppies and my mate. My former human left us outside and did nothing to care for us. I was emaciated and could barely walk when I was rescued. My mate passed away the day we were seized. I did my best to take care of my three puppies, and they all survived and went to good homes. I required quite a bit of recovery from my ordeal, but now I am the picture of health! I really enjoy life and love people. I love to play with other dogs, and I am learning boundaries when playing with them. I love to run and will follow my people everywhere they go. I try hard to cuddle, but I get so excited by receiving love that it takes me a few minutes to stop squirming with joy. Once I calm down I will lie and absorb all the love I can get. I missed so much in my first year or two of life, and now everything seems so exciting and wonderful. I get good food, I get the care I need, and I get love! Everyone who sees me know, including hardened cruelty investigators and veterinarians used to seeing serious cases, cant believe how quickly and how well I recovered. You would never know to look at me that I have ever been sick. I had surgery to remove my disabled leg and just three hours after surgery stopped, I got up and walked out of the clinic like nothing had happened. I have put on a lot of muscle and bounce everywhere I walk, full of excitement and energy. My play buddy is a big rottie named Bella. She is so strong, yet calm and friendly she has made sure I know how to behave around other dogs. My foster daddy corrects me if I get too pushy with other dogs as well a stern voice is all he needs to let me know I should calm down and behave. I would love to have a forever mom and dad that would continue to teach me about life and show me the wonderful aspects of the world. If you think you would like to adopt me, I would love for you to inquire about me and get more information. And if you want to see a little video of me, then click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ju2x9MZLzsOur adoption fee is $350 for most young/adults and $400 for puppies. We have had to raise our fee do to our transport costs from the south. We are often asked, "Why would you charge "so much" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support all rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in (discounted) vet care, and many people will want to adopt it. An older one with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation; yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt it. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others. Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you too are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption fees. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible."
