Spitz - Medium - Adult - Male - Dog - Mojo (CS)
Description
Name: MOJO (CS) Breed: Spitz/Sheltie mix Sex: Male Age: 5+ yrs. approx. Weight: 39 pounds Neutered: 6/23/09 Vaccinated: 6/24/09 Heartworm positive: treatment started 7/6/09 -- will be finished with treatment on 8/6/09 9/3/09 An update from Mojo's foster mom... Mojo was taken off the adoptable list for awhile to evaluate his personality. I'm putting him back out there with the hope that there is a perfect match for him. Mojo needs an older woman/couple that isn't wanting an active dog. As it turns out Mojo is a little older than we originally thought. He has cataracts starting and apparent back arthritis. Because of those things the vet is thinking Mojo may be as old as 5 to 6 or maybe even a little older. He now takes an anti-inflammatory/pain pill every other day. In addition to that he is still very afraid of just about everything. He loves his foster mom very much and will do anything for her. If someone is sitting he will come over and let them pet him. If someone is standing he goes behind mom or behind the couch. He goes the opposite direction of the other dogs, cats, and humans. I believe it's a matter of trust so Mojo wants to be with you 24/7 because it's safe. When you get up to go to another room, he gets up to follow. He loves to roam around the yard and watch you do your work. He has not shown any separation anxiety when left at home alone. He just waits by the door for you to come home. If you have a home that you would be willing to share with Mojo he will love you forever. He just wants to feel safe and loved. We would prefer a home without small children and without lots of other dogs so Mojo can relax and enjoy the rest of his life. You won't be disappointed! 7/22/09 This handsome man was dumped off at a high kill shelter. He managed to survive in there a month because he was quiet and calm. The shelter employees felt sorry for him because they thought he was so sweet and yet also very sad and depressed. When his foster family was able to get him out they actually had to carry him out because he was so scared. During the first week or so in his foster home all he would do is hide under or behind anything that didnt move. He had a definite fear of leashes and/or chains. He also was so covered in hair knots to the skin that he had to be shaved. He has come so far in just a few short weeks. Mojo is now king of the house. He has proven himself over and over. He no longer sleeps in a crate at night but choses to sleep on the floor next to his 14 year old foster moms bed. Our own dogs and the other fosters all sleep in crates. He roams the house freely and now feels comfortable enough to relax in the middle of the room. Hes only been told once to not get on the furniture and honors our wishes. Mojo has done fine with the cats. His preference is that they just leave him alone. If theyre playing in one room hell go to another. He will still run and hide if someone accidentally bumps into him or makes a loud noise. We think that Mojo would be happiest in a home without small children because he has obviously been abused and, even with the best of supervision, we're afraid small children might make him nervous and fearful. But Mojo LOVES attention and wants to be rubbed all the time. One of his favorite things is for you to sit on the floor face to face and hug on him while massaging his back. Oh what a spoiled boy he has become. The only thing missing in Mojos life is a FOREVER home. Wont you invite Mojo into yours? PICTURES ARE BEFORE HE GOT SHAVED & ALSO NOW THAT HE HAS HIS SPIFFY, COOL "DO"! See additional pictures below!! Adoption Donation: $400If you have any questions please email this dog's adoption coordinator: funksarahp@gmail.com If you have any questions or are interested in adopting, please visit our website and complete an online adoption application. http://www.pawsnewengland.com The adoption donation covers all pre-adoption vet costs (vaccinations, spaying/neutering (when age appropriate), heartworm testing/treatment when necessary and includes transportation up to New England ($125.00 per dog). Unless otherwise stated, all of our dogs are located outside of Rhode Island boarded either at one of our vet clinics or in foster care. If a dog is listed as "local, he /she is at one of our foster homes in New England. PAWS of New England is not shelter but a rescue and thus is not funded by any city or state organization - we rely solely on the donations of our adopters to help defray the costs associated with saving these precious lives. We are often asked, "Why would you charge "so much" for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?" The answer is because we need adopters who are willing to support all rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $150-400 in (discounted) vet care, and many people will want to adopt it. An older one with health issues can easily cost $500-1500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation; yet we can only ask a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt it. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others. Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you too are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption fees. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible. ALL KNOWN INFORMATION IS LISTED HERE. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and do not come with a known history.
